Important information for Swedes born and living abroad: To avoid loosing your Swedish citizenship, if you are born and residing outside of Sweden, you can apply to keep your citizenship. You have to apply it before turning 22 years old. However, you do not have to apply if you have been residing in Sweden or if you have been visiting Sweden regularly. You can find more information at the Swedish Migration Board homepage. Form: Application to maintain Swedish citizenship
Your application will be approved if you are the first generation born abroad. Following generations born outside of Sweden may keep their Swedish citizenship unless all connections to Sweden have been cut.
